Facebook, Twitter to be banned in India tomorrow ? New guidelines

Here Government is the most probable one who asks for a report from all social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram). And they will be asked whether their new intermediary guidelines has been filled or not.

Actually, on 25 feb 2021 New Guideline was released by MEITY(Ministry of electronics & Information Technology) for all social media companies. Many of these rules were stated for these companies, It was said that these companies have to keep an office in India and 

have to appoint a Compliance Officer Also, they have to send a Compliance Report to the Ministry. These were the conditions in which the new rules were made.

The new rules which were issued on 25 feb 2021.It was then given 3 months time at the time of issue That all these companies will have to follow these rules within these 3 months. 

 

It is said that from 26 may, these news rules will be applied on these companies (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

New Guidelines:

 

  • The new rules insisted on these platforms appointing a resident grievance officer, chief compliance officer and a nodal contact person.
  • They also mandated major social media intermediaries (with over 50 lakh user) to have a physical contact address in india published on its website or mobile application.
  • Swift grievance redressal mechanism within 15days, and active monitoring of harmful content using automated tools, and disabling access to disturbing content.
  • They were also require to publish a monthly compliance report on a monthly basis.

If companies do not follow these guidelines, Government said that this is protection(under section 79)It will take off you. Protection means, for eg. Like anyone can tweet, post

,use Indecent language and also spread fake news  on social media platforms. So what happens that these social media are given protection( under section 79)

So that in this it is said that These platform working like just intermediaries. This means that social media platforms are not doing it directly. These platforms are a medium through which messaging is delivered. If their protection is removed once from section 79, it will mean Whatever we post on social media, it will be assumed that the company is posting itself. So if anyone will do wrong post, So this person will not be accused of that Would rather accuse the company.

 

Some of these platforms sought more times up to six months for furnishing compliance. without the implementation of the personal data protection bill, expert had said that there will be no checks and balances.

Delhi has been going though a tough a time as there is so much going on here as last week only, it peaked on second wave graph. And this week it Cyclone Tauktae has been pouring northern India with rain for more than 24 hours now. Cyclone tauktae entered Gujarat coast on Monday and since then it has been raining in northern India and Delhi.

Temperature of northern India has gone down drastically, Delhi has maximum temperature of 22 degrees which is unrealistic as this May we are talking about. Rain is forecasted for 3-4 days, so it could last till Friday as it hit on Monday. Wind speed has been increasing since Monday in Delhi, it shows that the cyclone Tauktae has been coming closer to Delhi.

Indian Meteorological Department said, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 23.8 degree Celsius, which is 16 notches dropped from normal and is the lowest in the month of may since 1951, as this cyclone Tauktae has impacted India a lot. You can just get an idea from the fact that Srinagar recorded a max temperature of 25.8 degree Celcius.

This rain has has been affecting Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This is because of the interaction between the remnant of cyclonic storm “Tauktae” and western disturbances, said IMD.

Kuldeep Srivastava, head of IMD’s regional forecasting centre said, “Today, Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius. This is the lowest maximum temperature since 1951”.

As a result of all this chaos, an orange-coloured warning has been issued by the department as wind speed could go to 60km/h. This rain means, it would cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, necessary travel will be disrupted. Lockdown has resulted in a very clean atmosphere, Delhi recorded ‘satisfactory’ rating in air quality index.

People who are already affected by coronavirus are crying as this rain would mean even more disruption for people. But the brighter side is, it will encourage a lot of people as rain brings fresh air and a brighter aroma in the month of May which is probably the hottest month of them all.
