Rajinikanth honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke award 2021: Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (India), Prakash Javadekar announced via Twitter on Thursday morning. Later in 2019, Dadasaheb Phalke award had gone to Amitabh Bachchan.
This year Actor Rajinikanth has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke award. It is the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke award. Confirming the report, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (India), Prakash Javadekar wrote, “Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2020 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic.”
The union minister also appreciated the jury which comprised Subhash Ghai, Asha Bhonsle, Mohanlal, Biswajeet Chatterjee and Shankar Mahadevan.

Celebrities raced to wish India’s Superstar
Rajinikanth’s colleagues and other important personalities raced to wish India’s Superstar via social media. One of the very first personalities to wish Rajinikanth was India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM tweeted, “Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality…that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him.”
Later, the Rajinikanth himself tweeted a long note in Tamil, showing his profound gratitude at the honour. Rajinikanth wrote, “I wholeheartedly thank the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conferring me Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in the Indian Film Industry. I thank my bus driver and friend Raj Bahadur who discovered my acting talent and encouraged me, my brother Sathyanarayana Rao Gaekwad who sacrificed a lot while we were struggling in poverty to make me an actor, my guru K Balachander for creating ‘the Rajinikanth.’ I also thank my directors, producers, distributors, technicians, theatre owners, media, and Tamil people who have given me life. I dedicate this award to my fans across around the world. I thank Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam, opposition leader and my friend MK Stalin, my friend Kamal Haasan, other state and central leaders, industry friends, and my well-wishers. Rajinikanth’s Journey
Rajinikanth had made his first appearance in the industry in 1975, with the K Balachander movie Apoorva Raagangal. Post this, he was primarily observed essaying ‘negative’ roles in movies. Later, the artist set a different benchmark with his 2007 movie Sivaji, in Indian cinema. This was the 3rd Indian movie to enter the Rs 100 crore club at the time.
In his glorious career, our superstar has won 4 Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. He was conferred with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2016.
Apart from being an actor, he is also a screenwriter and a producer. In December 2017, our superstar had announced to contest in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections.
Superstar Rajinikanth is currently shooting his next, Annaatthe. He was last seen in 2020’s Darbar.
