For many viewers, Godzilla vs Kong is the first time they see Godzilla and King Kong smashing in a fight for the ages. In the trailer, one can easily observe that Godzilla suddenly started attacking everyone. He also attacked King Kong, when Kong was on a ship. And from there fight begins between these enemies. King Kong has connections with humans, that is why Kong is fighting against Godzilla from the side of Humans.
So we can say both have different intentions, one wanted to destroy everything and one wanted to save everyone. Therefore, they both become enemies.
